My Trans Life


Positive, empowering, emotional, educational and entertaining, My Trans Life is an intimate, unflinching and often upbeat portrait of life as a transgender individual.

Exploring the diversity of human sexual and gender variance around the world, driven by moving first-hand accounts from people who do not conform to a male/female binary, My Trans Life gets under the skin of what it means to change sex – and change attitudes.

Alongside the moving first-hand testimony, we get insights from family, friends, psychiatrists, endocrinologists and surgeons as they meet and assess patients on a day-to-day basis. Their treatment decisions have the potential to transform the lives of their patients, but these irrevocable changes are not made lightly.

Over 50% of trans people have tried to end their lives due to depression at some point, a statistic that underpins the huge psychological challenge of gender dysphoria – the mismatch between their biological sex and gender identity.

But despite the difficulties of ‘becoming themselves’ and being happy with that choice, our characters are confident life is worth living – and living to the full.

Learning about their personal struggles, relationships, hopes and fears, the viewer is forced to leave their preconceptions at the door – and accept that beyond man and woman, there’s a whole bunch of other options.
