Sky acquires LGBTQ doc Cured from Drive

Sky has picked up the award-winning LGBTQ documentary Cured (pictured) from UK production and distribution agency Drive for its Sky Documentaries unit.

The film examines the crusade by American LGBTQ activists in the early 1970s to have homosexuality removed from the American Psychiatric Association’s manual of mental illnesses. The campaign was ultimately successful.

Cured will be broadcast on Sky Sunday, June 13 and will also be available on its streaming service. The film was co-produced by Story Center Films, Singer & Deschamps Productions and the Independent Television Service, with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the U.S.

Drive’s global sales of Cured also include Yes TV in Israel, ORF in Austria, and Sky Italy. The film will have its U.S. broadcast debut on the PBS documentary showcase ‘Independent Lens’ October 11, National Coming Out Day.

“It’s not every day you see a film that shocks and inspires in equal measure the way Cured does,” said Drive co-managing director Ben Barrett in a release. “We’re really pleased to see a number of international channels picking up this important and timely film and look forward to increasing its global distribution in the coming months and years.”
