PUB RESCUE WITH TOM KERRIDGE

Tom Kerridge, owner of three innovative and successful pubs, sets off to explore why the industry he loves is in crisis.

To do this he lends his business expertise to 4 pubs (from Cornwall to Scotland) which, for very different reasons, are under threat. His aim is to help the landlords and landladies to secure the long-term futures of their much-loved locals and to shed light on why so many pubs are struggling. 5 months into his journey, and just when progress is being made, Covid hits and every pub in the country is forced to close, including Tom’s. We follow the stories of Tom’s businesses and the 4 pubs he’s been working with through the dark days of lockdown and beyond. For an industry which was struggling before the pandemic, it’s now a fight for survival.

Reviews

We got a dense and moving slice of life, contemporary business, British social history and a lot of other things in between… It feels very strange to be treated with such unexpected respect and concern as a viewer… Overseen by Kerridge, a presenter as compassionate as he is experienced in the industry, it asks interesting and important questions about what we value and how we arrest the declines we see. Another round please. ****

Television Review, The Guardian

As public-service TV, it was valuable for explaining the universal challenges faced by publicans. The programme reminded you of the value of pubs in our lives. If you’ve ever enjoyed a pint in a pub, this is a series you should be watching. ****

Television Review, The Times

Kerridge was knowledgeable, sympathetic and full of constructive ideas, with none of the haranguing that can accompany shows of this type (Gordon Ramsay and Mary Portas I’m looking at you). The series was a reminder of how precious our pubs are.
