Drive finance new Kenyan mall doc

Broadcasters across the world have come on board a one-off doc about the 2013 Nairobi mall massacre as deficit financers and coproducers. Broadcasters in Australia, Denmark, Norway and Sweden have all picked up Terror at the Mall.

Terror at the Mall is a coproduction between the BBC and premium US cablenet HBO telling the horrific story of a terrorist assault over four days that left 67 dead and hundreds wounded. It features interviews with witnesses and survivors, as well as exclusive surveillance camera footage shot inside the upscale shopping center between September 21 and 24 when gunmen from a militant Islamist group laid siege.

Amos Pictures and award winning producer and director Dan Reed produced the doc, which secured unprecedented access to CCTV footage from the Nairobi Westgate shopping mall where the terrorist attack took place this time last year.

Drive has closed a number of deals for the programme ahead of its BBC premiere this evening.

Investment in the project was secured from Channel 9 in Australia, DR in Denmark, TV2 Norway and Swedish pubcaster SVT. Drive also brokered a distribution deal with Earth Touch for the remaining territory rights.
